Where seeds come from

  • Match seeds come from a private pool of seeds that have been filtered in advance, and the Nether has its own seed.
  • Some seed types unlock as you rank up. A match uses only the types the lower-ranked player has unlocked.
  • After a match you can like or dislike the seed. A seed both players dislike leaves the pool.
  • The seed stays secret during the match: /seed is off, the seed is stored encrypted in the world, and opening to LAN is blocked in 1v1. Once the match ends you can copy it.
  • Any past match seed can be played again alone, as practice, from your match history.
  • If a seed is bad, either player can call a seed-change vote (votes).

Standardized luck

In vanilla Minecraft, two players on the same seed still get different luck: different barters, blaze rod drops and flint. Splitstone fixes that luck so it comes in the same order for everyone. Your 5th barter gives the same result as your opponent's 5th barter, so a match is decided by play rather than drops.

Splitstone standardizes everything on MCSR Ranked's luck standardization list, including the dragon's perch done the same way, and adds woodlighting. Everything else stays vanilla.

Where it applies

  • Standardized: Ranked 1v1, 2v2, co-op, game modes, and private rooms playing any of them.
  • Vanilla: speedrun.com categories, which you play in your own legal instance (Categories), single-player worlds and private practice.

Luck in a shared world

In 2v2 and co-op, each team has one luck sequence that both teammates share. The team's Nth barter, blaze rod or flint matches the other team's Nth, whichever teammate gets it. Team totals stay equal however the teammates split the work.

  • The host gets the standardized spawn point; the teammate who joins spawns at a normal random spot nearby.
  • No ghast spawns within 5 chunks of either teammate.
  • The dragon's strafe check uses whichever teammate is closest to the fountain, so where a team stands affects the perch the way one player's position does in 1v1.
