Queues
- Every mode has its own queue: Ranked 1v1, 2v2, co-op and each game mode. Apart from co-op, which is unrated, there is no unrated casual queue.
- Queueing runs in the background. While you wait you can sit in a private room, play your own practice world, or do anything else that doesn't put you against another person.
- You can leave the queue at any time before a match is found. After that it can't be cancelled or declined.
Who you play
You're paired by Elo and by how often you forfeit. Close Elo comes first, and the allowed gap widens the longer you wait.
The starting targets, which will be tuned with real players: a match within 2 to 3 minutes inside ±250 Elo, then up to ±450 until the bot offer at 5:30. You can also set your matchmaking speed to fast, balanced or accurate; it starts on balanced.
Bots
- Every rank has a bot. After about 5:30 in the ranked queue you're offered a bot match, which you can accept or decline. A bot match counts for Elo.
- You can take at most one bot match in every 5 games, except while few players are online.
- 2v2, co-op and game-mode queues offer bots the same way. A 2v2 team's bots sit around the team's average Elo. How strong co-op bots are is not decided yet.
- Players in the top 75 can choose to let Splitstone build a bot that plays like them, from their own detailed stats. No copy bot exists without that player's consent.
2v2 and co-op
- A 2v2 team's strength is the plain average of its two players' 2v2 Elo. A premade duo can be matched against two random players.
- 1v1 is one global pool, because each player plays their own world. 2v2 and co-op are matched by region, because teammates share a world through a relay in that region.
- Queueing alone, you pick your region, or turn on "join the global pool" to find a teammate anywhere. In a party, the leader picks.
- Players you've blocked are never given to you as a random teammate.
Forfeits and queue bans
Three forfeits in a row give a 3-minute queue ban, and it grows with each further forfeit in a row. Your forfeit rate also counts in pairing.
Busy times
If players arrive faster than the service can take them, you see a "you're in line" screen until there's room.
