The basics

What is Splitstone?

An independent Minecraft speedrunning platform: ranked 1v1 and 2v2 races, co-op, private rooms, practice tools, replays, seasons and events. It runs its own matchmaking, ratings and service. It is not an official Minecraft product and is not run by MCSR Ranked.

Is it free?

Yes. Playing ranked, the practice tools and replay analysis are free, and so is the whole battle pass at launch. Optional monthly tiers support the project (Supporting Splitstone).

Does paying help me in ranked?

No. Paid tiers add profile, private-room and social extras. Rank marks such as gold, the crown, medals and the lava glow can only be earned, and bought cosmetics never appear on leaderboard rows.

When can I play?

Downloads aren't released yet, and no release date has been announced.

Install and setup

Which launchers work?

Prism, MultiMC, the Modrinth App and the official Minecraft Launcher. Prism, MultiMC and the Modrinth App all use the same Modrinth pack (Install).

Why not CurseForge?

CurseForge packs may only include mods hosted on CurseForge or on its approved list, and most speedrun-legal builds are neither.

Does it work on Mac and Linux?

Yes. The mod and both packs are made for Windows, macOS and Linux. On macOS the pack uses Sodium's Mac build.

Can I keep MCSR Ranked installed?

Yes, in a separate instance. Splitstone needs its own instance because Ranked won't start next to mods that aren't on the speedrun.com legal list (why).

Can I use my own mods and tools?

You can use exactly the mods on the speedrun.com legal list, and Splitstone checks each file against it. Fabric API can't be installed on its own; Splitstone's mod brings the parts it needs. External tools follow speedrun.com's list, such as its approved calculators like Ninjabrain Bot.

During a match, reset mods (Atum, SeedQueue, WorldPreview) can't reset or create worlds, and SeedQueue pauses background generation. StandardSettings still applies your settings. Outside matches they all work normally.

I'm on an old version and can't connect.

Only the latest version can connect. Let the in-game updater install the new version.

Your account

Do I need a Splitstone account or password?

No. Your Minecraft account is your Splitstone account, one per Minecraft account. There is no separate sign-up (how sign-in works).

Can I sign in on the website?

No. The website has no sign-in. It shows public profiles, and the shop asks for the Minecraft username of whoever the purchase is for.

Can I use alt accounts?

Yes, there is no limit. Using an alt to dodge a ban or to boost someone's Elo is against the rules and is punished. A ban covers one Minecraft account.

How do I change my name?

Change your Minecraft username. Your Splitstone name always follows it, and your history, Elo and items stay with your account. Past names aren't shown on profiles.

How do I link Twitch or YouTube?

From inside the game. Linked accounts show on your profile, and you can hide them.

How old do I have to be?

13 or older. From 16 you can buy things yourself; younger players get items when a parent buys them.

What happens if I delete my account?

Your past matches stay, so opponents' histories and leaderboards stay correct, and your name on them is shown faded. You can ask for your name to be removed from past matches.

Problems and help

How do I report a bug?

Use the "Report a bug" button in the game.

My game crashed. What happens to the crash report?

The next time you start Splitstone, it asks whether to send the crash report. Nothing is sent unless you say yes. Logs go to mclo.gs, which removes file paths, usernames, IP addresses and tokens, and Splitstone keeps only the link. Anyone with the link can read the log, and it expires 90 days after it was last viewed.

I crashed during a match. Did I lose?

No. You reconnect automatically and keep your progress, even before the match has started. A player who is away from the keyboard for 5 minutes forfeits (leaving and disconnects).

Why can't I sign in?

Check that you're on the latest version. Sign-in also needs Microsoft's service, so it fails while Microsoft is down.

Why am I seeing "you're in line"?

Players are arriving faster than the service can take them, and you'll get in as soon as there's room.

How do I report a player?

In the game, from their profile, a chat message or the match. The founders review reports with help from automated tools.

How do I appeal a ban or mute?

In the game or through a form on the website. The founders review every appeal themselves.

Where do I get help?

By email to contact@splitstonemc.com, or in the game.
